Erin Mielzynski had a historic breakthrough on March 4, 2012, when she won the World Cup slalom race in Ofterschwang, Germany. She was the first Canadian to win a World Cup slalom race since Betsy Clifford in 1971, Canada’s first women’s slalom champion in 41 years. Sitting fifth after the first run, Mielzynski made up a deficit of 0.60 seconds by going smoothly down the course.
