Geneviève Simard won a super-G race on January 14, 2004, in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. The 23-year-old from Val-Morin, Quebec beat Germany’s Maria Riesch by 0.65 seconds in perfect conditions down the Olympia delle Tofane course. Simard’s win was the first in super-G for a Canadian woman since Mélanie Turgeon at Innsbruck in 2000. She is now a world-famous helicopter pilot featured in Hélico Tous Terrains, a Quebec TV show about a bush helicopter pilot working in Quebec’s north coast.
