JUNGLE JIM HUNTER

“Jungle” Jim Hunter became the first Canadian male to win a World Championship medal when he won the bronze medal at the 1972 World Championship in Sapporo, Japan. He competed in two Winter Olympics 1972 and 1976. Jungle Jim was the Canadian team’s top all-around performer and in 1975/76 he placed in the top ten in World Cup Downhill events four times.

Jim was considered “the original Crazy Canuck” and was nicknamed “Jungle Jim” by teammates who marvelled at the wild abandon with which he threw himself into his training and, on race days, whether it be a haystack in the fields of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan or down a snow-covered mountain in the European Alps.
