KEN READ

After winning Kitzbühel the week before, Ken Read was ready for the Wengen downhill in 1980 standing on top of the World Cup podium for the fifth time in his career. In winning he became the first non-European to win the world’s oldest and longest downhill race on the World Cup circuit, the Lauberhorn. The next day, Ken Read and Steve Podborski would capture 2nd and 3rd place podiums respectively in the second downhill at Wengen. Read was inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 1984.
